Snowmass Announces Rockin’ Music Schedule for Entire 2006 Summer

Snowmass Village, CO : April 10th, 2006 — Snowmass Village, CO. Three years ago, Snowmass Village, Colorado, dedicated itself to becoming the hottest mountain destination for high-caliber and affordable music. Years one and two saw such talent as Leftover Salmon, Keller Williams, Shawn Colvin, and Michael Franti & Spearhead take to the outdoor stage of this scenic resort tucked high into the Elk Mountains near Aspen. Today Snowmass is thrilled to announce its strongest line-up yet, with free music all summer long.

“We’re really looking forward to an amazing summer music schedule,” says Susan Hamley, Snowmass Village’s Marketing Director. “We’re not just talking a day or week. Snowmass offers music — and free concerts, no less — all summer long by nationally renowned performers. It’s a strategy we’re employing to lure summer guests from the front range and outside Colorado to visit Snowmass Village and experience everything this magnificent resort has to offer.”

The season kicks off June 9-11 with the 3rd Annual Chili Pepper & Brew Fest, which lures audiences of well over 3,000. Drawing together international chili experts and top microbrewers for three days of competitions and tastings, this festival boasts an outstanding music line-up that includes Jonny Lang, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Trevor Hall, The Wood Brothers, and Sean Costello. Tickets for this event are only $15/day or a $25/day party pass that includes microbrew samplings and chili tastings.

Music returns to the mountains and sets up camp on June 29 with the start of the Snowmass Summer of Free Music Series, a free weekly outdoor concert every Thursday night on Fanny Hill that also draws crowds by the thousands.

“We’re giving a big tip of the hat to the Big Easy this year, and for all the right reasons,” says Jazz/Aspen Snowmass Executive Producer Jim Horowitz, who programs the Thursday Night Free Music Series for Snowmass Village. “This is one of the best line-ups in the history of the program. Without a doubt the culmination is Sam Bush at the end.”

From New Orleans favorites Tab Benoit, The Iguanas and Jon Cleary to Chicago Blues with Lil’ Ed to Jazz with Soulive and bluegrass with Sam Bush, the Snowmass Summer of Free Music series offers an eclectic line up appealing to all ages and tastes.

Free Thursday night concerts are just a part of the free concert scene, and all-in-all Snowmass boasts over 14 free concerts this summer. The legendary Blind Boys of Alabama bring their hallowed and innovative style of traditional gospel to Snowmass as part of a July 1 Independence Celebration that also includes an incredible laser light show. Two Free Massive Music & Movies weekend have been scheduled as well, combining free outdoor movies with free concerts by Particle, a well-known national act to be announced on June 18, and the Mutaytor, a unique and popular Las Vegas-style performance art show set to music.

“Every mountain resort books summer music, we just take it to the next level across the board, especially in terms of our free concerts, ” says Snowmass Village Event Director Josh Behrman. “And of all the mountain festivals, no one gets the level of talent that Jazz Aspen/ Snowmass’s Labor Day festival draws. Snowmass is quickly becoming a music powerhouse, and we intend to keep that progression going year after year.”

In between the concerts, Snowmass Village offers a full schedule of activities, events, and mountain adventures, ranging from 40 miles of mountain biking and hiking to fly fishing, a weekly western rodeo and much more. For more information, please visit
