Legendary festivals got their start in Snowmass: Now meet the next round of fast rising stars

Snowmass Village, CO : June 8th, 2005 — Snowmass Village, Colorado, is best known as one of the top ski resorts in the nation, but it also has the honor of being the birthplace of such renowned summer festivals as the Aspen Food & Wine Classic and Jazz Aspen Snowmass. We’d like to introduce our newest round of events: fast-rising stars in the worlds of music, food, and wellness that promise to prove once again that Snowmass is a compelling launching pad for innovative events and a nationally-attractive summer destination all on its own. We invite the media to get in on the ground floor and visit Snowmass while the competition and atmosphere is relaxed, the entertainment value is superb, and the number of story angles up for grabs is as high as the altitude of the Rocky Mountain peaks surrounding this beautiful resort.

Snowmass’ blossoming new events include the following:
The Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest (June 17-19). In only its second year, the Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest has managed to lure such top performers as Keller Williams and Michael Franti & Spearhead. It’s garnered such admiration that the International Chili Society moved both its district and regional competitions to town, and it doubled the number of top participating microbrews to 40 in just a year. With its winning combination of chili and microbrew tastings and hot music, this event promises—and delivers—a killer season opener. For more information, visit www.snowmasspress.com/chili.

The Snowmass Wellness Experience (July 15-17). In its first year, the Snowmass Wellness Experience lured such luminaries as Deepak Chopra and yoga guru Bikram Choudhury. This year Snowmass has broken all records with a line-up of events and speakers like no other mountain wellness event. Chopra is returning to join other keynote speakers Joan Borysenko, Len Horowitz, and Elliot Dacher. Featured speakers include several best-selling wellness authors and top yoga experts and workshops range in topics from animal health to Mind-Body Integration to Anti-Aging Medicine. Two world movie premieres, 16 different forms of yoga classes, pavilion tents on massage, nutrition and medical health, a dynamic vendor village, cooking demonstrations, medicinal plant guided walks and more ensure this event offers something for anyone interested in their health, well being, and rejuvenation of the mind, body, & spirit. For more information, visit www.snowmasswellness.com.

Massive Music & Movies (July 7-9, Aug. 4-6 & 25-27). Those missing the old-time experience of heading out to the drive-in but who also enjoy their local town’s outdoor summer concert series, will love Massive Music & Movies which combines the best of both worlds. Snowmass offers three weekends of absolutely free outdoor concerts and music. In only its second year, Massive Music & Movies provides free concerts from the likes of Shawn Colvin, Eric Lindel, Charlie Musselwhite, the Derek Trucks Band, the Psychedelic Furs, and Motown’s renowned Funk Brothers all paired with classic movies such as Animal House, Pretty in Pink, and The Sound of Music. Visitors can bring a picnic, a blanket, and a bowl of popcorn and they’ll never even miss that microphone attached to the side of their car. For more information, visit www.snowmasspress.com.

Fall in Love with Aspen/Snowmass (Sept. 9-18). Those who think New England provides the most beautiful fall scenery in the U.S. have never seen the Rocky Mountain aspens turn to brilliant gold nor experienced a 10-day extravaganza like Fall in Love, and it’s time to rectify this oversight. In its first year, Fall in Love boasted 40 different events, ranging from cooking demonstrations to a Hot Air Balloon Festival that celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2005 to bike rides, half-marathons, an Oktoberfest, Food & Jazz Festival, photography contests and more. Travelers won’t want to miss the luminescence of 30 hot air balloons lit up at dusk against a glowing fall backdrop, international vintners pouring wine in a relaxed atmosphere, Oktoberfest steins klinking together, and the apple cider, brisk hike, hint-of-winter-crisp aroma of the harvest season in Snowmass.

But don’t take our word on any of these events—we invite the media to come and see for themselves that Snowmass is one of the best-kept summer secrets in the Rockies. Located only 9 miles from downtown Aspen, Colorado, Snowmass is accessible via four regional airports (Aspen, Eagle, Grand Junction, and Denver), and its 95% bike-in, bike-out lodging makes convenience, value, and summer affordability the buzz words of the season.

For a complete schedule of Snowmass’ additional events and activities (which raise the word “extensive” to a whole new level—think over 25 miles of mountain biking trails, a new mountain bike terrain park, guided naturalist hikes, fly fishing, kids and adults’ art classes, mountainboarding, jeep tours, one of the longest-running rodeos in the U.S., free weekly concerts and lectures, an award-winning new golf course and more), visit www. snowmasspress.com.
